to everyone in Hastings and St. Leonards and friends of the town(s) - the very best wishes from Canada... I look forward to seeing you in 2004... There are things wrong with Hastings for sure but there is still a lot that is very right with the town... The Old Town is still one of my most favourite places (in the world) to be... Some great pubs and terrific restaurants... I love eating cockles at the fish bars in the old town... See you all soon...

My favourite restaurant in Hastings is Maggie's, in Trinity Street. Home made, wholesome and much more healthy than the trash served up in the fast food chains. I used to eat there every lunchtime when researching in the library. Helena

Dear Josie
I am writing to tell you that The Argus is ceasing publication of Extra, our weekly community news supplement.

The reason for this is that we are making some significant changes and improvements to the paper in the New Year and Extra is not part of those plans.

There would not have been a supplement over Christmas and New Year anyway and so the last edition of Extra will be on Wednesday, December 17.

I appreciate that this decision will come as a disappointment to you and should like to thank you for all your work as a community correspondent on behalf of The Argus.

I would be grateful if you could ask people or organisations used to appearing in your column to submit newsworthy items to us here at Argus House. They can be sent/emailed to the news editor Simon Freeman (news@theargus.co.uk) and/or listings editor Zarah Jones (zarah.jones@theargus.co.uk).

Once the Editor receives a SAE (keep them coming, which every issue is in production, this will be sent) - Inside this current issue a new section with a hope for growth...YOUR VOICE, It's empty, would anyone like to speak? Find a way, then we could cheat the whiles and the ways of reality ©jl (the magazine is a bouncing board, so who knows who would see or read your inclusion.- you may even be contacted, as your details if you wish would be included..the magazine is unpredictable, never predictable that is why it is such an exiting copy to get hold of - It includes CD review, (all musicians/singers/songwriters have the option to send in copies of their CD's as gifts for possible inclusion as a CD review - what more could it do but help their music along if it gets a mention but also give the Editor who is full of music and poetry in her soul a chance to hear beauty from other people in Hastings) poetry, information from Michael Foster DL MP, some information from the Patron himself, and even a little story from Mr Rabbit who has been on his holidays to Agadir. Announcement from the desk of Ebb & Flow Community Magazine

Gift Donations of musician/singers/songwriters CD’s welcome for review.
I, Josie Lawson, Editor/Founder do not have any qualification, only the knowledge that I come from a musical background, and the knowledge that the Virgin group once heard my musical feel through my words and sent CD’s for me to review. Also, the knowledge that I too am creative, a Hastings Poet, starting out on lyric writing, of which Katherine of Candy’s and Lex have become interested - and the best part...I just love it all.

If you would like to take part in this fun non-profit magazine and have just an Editor’s Choice possible inclusion in the magazine, and with the knowledge that I have a hearing/sight problem, please do not hesitate. This is a voluntary magazine and so runs totally on yours truly finances unless anyone wishes to send gift donations to help with its production. Whatever way it goes, it will continue, either a small readership or a large readership. It is an unpredictable ongoing magazine that has just been noticed by Lord Brett McLean, not only because he is Patron, but as the Hastings Observer mentioned....Eleven recipients of Lord’s awards - and my section was, Josie Lawson, who is disabled but produces a non-profit community magazine...this award as it states is for local people who don’t meet the criteria for such awards as the Civic Pride Award or Health Professional of the Year. It also states that he is following in the footsteps of former Mayor Richard Stevens who introduced the “mayrol award”.
So, now I’ve boasted myself but been given a ‘pat on the back’ as Brett says, I will continue this magazine the best way I can.

The magazine has reviewed Tim Hoytes CD...is all set to review Adeline’s - both with their knowledge, and on personal chat with Adeline and Andy who records CD’s they both feel it is possible it is a good idea of mine.
So get cracking all you hopeful and professionals...I’m looking forward to hearing from you....it’s soon to be Christmas, perhaps a great big sack full would be a great Chrissy pressie - then I can enjoy right through the year and hopeful years to come giving you all this great opportunity.
HA!HA! “HO!HO!”
I’m only me who loves to join in with you all....
NOW IT’S COMPLETELY OVER TO YOU!
Don’t seek me out ‘cos I’m never about
unless of course you find me
then you will find I’m only another fellow being like yourselves
and I just love.....MUSIC!
Don’t forget the (A5) SAE (Stamped addressed envelope)

To whom it may concern from Hastings Poet

Date: 17 August, 2003
From: Josie Lawson, Hastings & St Leonards, England - UK
E-mail: josie30@btopenworld.com

Dear Yasser Dirki,(Friend) (Robert Brandon , Ashley Jordan, both Shorelink Community Writers) Ashley Bolch(Editor Go4Tune) Paul Huggins (Editor - The Entertainer) Josephine Austin (Hastings Poet) all my friends on Earth, and To Whom It May Concern that reads this writing:-

I am releasing a small anthology of my work entitled THE PLANET CALLED EARTH. Within there are words to the effect which cover the words of mine on St Mary in the Castle door as under.....

>>>

poetry first published within The Entertainer (Hastings based) - a poem first published and compiled by Josephine Austin in 1998 under my previous penname, and a poem first published in 1994 and placed in a book 'Dance on the Horizon' by The National Library of Poetry and placed in the Library of Congress cataloging in Publication Data. USA -

Within the anthology, also a poem entitled 'The Gentle Man' of whom Yasser Dirki inspired along with a course that I have been taking in Self Management and my desire to walk through life inspired with hope.

It is dedicated as such -

>>>

If anyone wants a copy I am only charging £1 min as gift donation to help with my expenses of producing such if passed on by hand. If anyone wishes to give more, that is their choice. Anyone who then contacts through the post for further copies will be charged £2.50 per copy as is on reverse of book with A5 SAE,again, as gift donation to help with the expenses of such; then I will send by return or as printing allows with regards to my health.

Over the coming months there will be more anthologies produced all being well. I have decided the time is ripe for me to do such. I have poetry ranging back to the 80's all of which I hope I will theme - and many have been read behind the 'open mic' (Other Words is now held at Harpers in Hastings) ranging back to 1997 when it was first organised by Tara Reddy, held at Harpers, moved to The Jenny Lind, Old Town and now is back at Harpers.

I was introduced to Other Words by Lord Tivers of the Old Town of Hastings (sadly deceased, who was a very great friend of mine). I have recently attended one of these sessions, I feel my health is now able to cope, I will carry on in a positive tone if I can. Also, my words included in the anthology or that will be read in others, have been published in periodicals within the country of the UK over time, and read on radio (live - back in the 80's, phone in chat shows, and hospital radios to include Colwell Radio, St Francis Hospital, Haywards Heath - Cuckfield Hospital Radio (hospital no longer), Conquest Hospital radio etc.(different pennames) where as a poet, I was interviewed.

I am a Hastings Poet. I began writing poetry outside of Hastings although always read it as a child and loved words. I have always felt warmth within the poetry of life. I am and was born in Hastings. I am an original as the theory behind it is not understood by me. I was once told that if I took a leaning towards learning the grammatics now in life, it would effect my style. So anyone wishing to read my own original style - well, just start reading, you can then make your own mind up to whether I am who I say I am.....A poet.

But....it is to be understood that what I do write here in my life with words, it is done out of love of them as a writing tool. my sensations of life itself. my heart towards myself and others - I understand not the grammatical tool, but the original tool of self, thoughts and communication and all in the world as the heart of such. I prefer if at all possible not to be cloned through grammar - although, in the past, I have been told that I sometimes write it... I was born into a musical and entertaining family of whom I never thought I belonged creatively, until the words decided to come along and take fruition from the first day I found experience of blindness(although I am now in remission) - maybe one day, through my writings....my life will be read amongst all the joy I perceive and find the urge to write about. Life, does not stand still - each second finds its way into the past and into history, and so, this tells me that unless I portray my words to others, they may never be read. It is a gift to me and so my gift to the world even though I respectfully ask for a gift donation to help with their production expense.

Take care - Josie Lawson

HASTINGS COUNCIL INTIMIDATION

Date: 28 July, 2003
From: Kerry Thackwell, Hastings and St Leonards, UK
E-mail: kerry@thackwell.demon.co.uk

It has been brought to our attention this morning on www.hastings.uk.net forum that Hastings Borough Council is blocking access to its Council Website to certain webmasters who have placed items relating to me and my company on there own sites. Hastings Borough Council fail to learn that intimidation is not an acceptable way to run a Council, they refuse to accept responsibility for destroying the very fabric of what is one of the finest towns in England, they fail to accept responsibility for covering up child abuse at numerous boarding schools in there borough and they fail to accept that the people of this town have had enough of living in fear for there children and themselves.

SPYWAY SCHOOL HASTINGS

From: Kerry Thackwell, Hastings, u
E-mail: kerry@thackwell.demon.co.uk

Dear Readers to this message board. I have just had a meeting with a former pupil at this school and would like any further information as to what was the nature of the closure of this school as I have been able to find out nothing of its existence even though I have today been taken to the the scholl at the end of Hollington Park Road and Guilsman Road to see the burnt out remains which I am told was set fire to by former pupils after it was closed. Any information would be grateful as itas existence seems to have been removed from Hastings Borough Council Records. Please we need this information, whetever it may be. We are also seeking information regarding the demise of the Headmaster at Claremont School For Boarders 7 - 14 years which is on the a21 approach to Hastings.

Would anybody know if the Spyway School Hastings has any connection with the Spyway Schools on the www ? If so they seem to be connected with some very well known boarding schools throughout England ? ? ?

Many Thanks

PAEDOPHILES AND CHILD KILLERS

I would like to start with some facts regarding what is a very disturbing and reoccurring problem in Hastings and St Leonards, that being the large number of people in relation to population in positions of power who have been charged, convicted or awaiting trial for child se x offences and child murder in Hastings and St Leonards.

I hope people will place the names of further people you may know to have been found guilty of any of the above offences inside Hastings and St Leonards going back the past 30 years. Please, only factual events as this is a public forum and it is I believe one of the most disturbing aspects we have uncovered in our town ...

To start this forum I raise the following. Sion Jenkins a deputy headmaster of William Parker was known by people in Hastings to have been running a paedophile ring long before he butchered his foster daughter. The Head of Claremont school was under investigation and on bail at the time he killed himself while being investigated for long term child abuse at Claremont, I have had parents with children at this school at the time who were aware from there children that something nasty was going on inside this school for children. A Hastings Police Inspector has been charged with downloading child por nography. Mary Bell was relocated in Hastings after her release and we are told that she was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to paedophiles and child killers who have been relocated in this town for over 30 years. The above are disturbing facts that alone warrant a Government inquiry into practices involving Hastings Borough Council as the people and parents of this town have a right to know who has been relocated here.

I hope the good people of Hastings and St Leonards can place further facts and known convictions of people who have any power or who deal with children and the mentally ill in this town. Once we have enough factual accounts we will be lobbying the Government to call for a full investigation into Hastings Borough Councils policy in regard to this issue.

I come to Hastings on holidays and enjoy the area. If anyone has any info I would really like to hear from them. The areas where they lived were st Thomas Rd, Whitefriars Rd, Milward Cresent, Vicarage Rd and also Hughenden Rd.

Rev. Perry you are only about sixty miles from Hastings and you have not been back for fourty years?
You should read the Observer on line like I do. You may be some what enlightened as to the problems that the good people of Hastings have to endure and I mean the GOOD people. Some I am afraid would say don't believe all that you read, but I also get first hand information from friends and relatives.
Hope you are enjoying your current location, where I'm at is great.
All the best.

What is going on?

What a refreshing idea

Date: 05 July, 2003
From: derek white, mission viejo, california, USA
E-mail: djmawhite@cox.net

I am so happy to see that some one is taking an interest in Hastings well being. In the past I have brought up several points about the condition of the town. I was challenged by many from different parts of the world including our (friends?) in Canada and as close as San diego. None of these people offered any solutions, only verbal abuse. It has been two years since I was last in Hastings so I really can't comment too much on the state of affairs. I can only go by what I read in the Observer on-line and what my friends and relatives convey to me. I must say neither source paint a very pretty picture.
So, what I say at this time is. Come on you people of Hastings, stand up and be counted and do something to bring the town under your control and let the council know who they work for.

From: Thackwell & Co, Hastings, England

Hastings Borough Council is the third most highly funded Council in England, Scotland and Wales. For Decades your money has been wasted by incompetent little people, people whom do not have the guts to face the facts and figures of this Town. A town that has more History than any other outside London. Its time the people took control of there town from the mongrels that have been running it into the ground for decades. We all no whats been going on and its time the people took charge of there own lives and put these small time hoods away for good. If you have any information regarding any form of malpractice please send it to us,we will use it to bring these people down. We want jobs not pretty lights.

Further to my last message, does anyone know if another old friend, TIM JACKSON, whose father owned a clothing shop opposite Holy Trinity Church Robertson St in the 1950's is still in town?
Also, my old friend Chris (Buster) Upton was a St John's Ambulance cadet (Hastings Band Div) in the late 50's. When he was about 17/18, he worked for an Estate Agent. He used to live in pilot Road.

What part of the universe do you live in? I haven't heard of or seen a place as you describe it that is intolerant to so many people and ideas.

When you visit Hastings Amy, just don't go out at night on your own. I have relatives there and they are not at all please at what is going on.

You should read the accounts in the Observer on line, it's an eye opener.

Now I guess I will get some flack from my (friends) in Canada. Ohhh yes!

I've been to Hastings in 1995 when I was just 17 years old. I stayed 3 weeks. After this experience I visited other part of England (London included) but I've never felt again the emotion I experienced in 1066 Country. Sometimes I think I should give up my job and house here in Italy and move to Hastings. It could be great! Hoping to come as soon as possible I want to say hallo to everybody at Pinks Health Club. I'm a bodybuilder and during my holiday in Hastings I spent a couple of hours 4 times a week in that gym. I learnt so much about training from you guys! I hope to see you soon. If anybody knows a cheap accomodation in central Hastings or St. Leonards please e-mail me. Greetings from La Spezia, Italy! Matteo

Hastings Bands / Musicians from the 60's and 70's

Date: 18 January, 2003
From: Chris Baker, Wendover, UK
E-mail: cbucks@bigfoot.com

Hiya, I used to play in a few bands in Hastings in the later 60's early 70's. Anyone else out there know of bands or band members from those times? It was all fantastic fun of course and I'd love to hear from others who remember those times.

I was in (can't beileve the names now) "The Town Council" / "Love Bucket" and lots of jamming bangs that played in The Cutter / Jenny Lind or London Trader etc.

Musicians I remember, (not sure of spellings) include; Steve Hersee, Pete Robertson, Brian Williams, Bob Shipway and Pete Willshire,(all in the Town Council). Andy and Tony Qunta, lads from "Suspect" Steve Dimitrius, "Min" Simon Medhurst, Del McGoogan, Pete Sansom and Bev Martyn (John's wife).

Drop me a line if you know of anyone?

Cheers for now

Chris

From: Elizabeth Rose Nollert, St. Leonard's on sea, England
E-mail: liz_noller@hotmail.com

Hi
I am looking for any relatives of my grandmother who came to Canada in 1920 to marry my grandfather.
Her maiden name was Rosalie May Bardet
Date of Birth: June 7, 1900
Her fathers name was Samuel Henry Bardet
Maiden name of her mother was Elizabeth Jane Pringle

She went to Montreal to marry Cecil Henry Conners
His fathers name was Thomas Conners of Toronto
Maiden name of his mother was Emma Freeburn.

Grandma and Grandpa are both deceased and I just recently found information of where Grandma was from and I remember her telling me as a child that she had sisters still in England. I always thought it was sad that she left her family so long ago. I think it would be great to know about our family in England.

If you can help me. please e-mail me back.
